Stronger than the Storm A T-shirt Fundraiser for Will & Greta Harris To hear that phrase “Stronger than the Storm” I’m sure you can resonate with it on more than one level. One Russell County Family have felt the effects of the “storm” for the last two years. Will Harris is a native of Russell Co, born to Troy and Dianna Harris. Will and Greta married in January of 2021. Will is an OTR Truck Driver for Superior Battery and Greta is a Billing Specialist for Russell County Hospital. Both truly enjoy their jobs and being active community members. Will is also an active member of the Russell County Jaycees, where he loves spending extra time with his fellow Jaycees and giving of his time and heart to the various community projects the Jaycees hold yearly. In April of 2023, Will Harris had to have two emergency surgeries to combat an infection that was quite advanced and moving quickly. This infection was in the process of puncturing his chest wall which would have been fatal. Thankfully, his surgeon acted quickly and was able to get the infection out. Will spent a good amount of time in the hospital being cared for before being released home with a rather large hole in his chest requiring daily wound care for a pump aiding in the healing of such a large wound. After several months Will was able to go back to work and both Will and Greta thought that everything was in the clear. Unfortunately, in April 2024 the infection came back and had quite a vendetta. This infection was progressing very quickly and yet again Will was facing emergency surgery. His surgeon blew it out of the water with the fast-acting care and Will was able to go home same day. Unfortunately, by that weekend Wills sugar levels peaked over 500-600 and the wound site was not doing well. He was admitted back to the hospital where he was under care and faced a second surgery during that time. Will is still needing daily care to aid in the healing of these wounds. While attending his daily appointments his wound care nurses were able to find 6 more points of infection trying to rear its nasty head. Will and Greta are both extremely thankful for the nurses and his surgeon at Russell County Hospital and Russell County Hospital’s Wound Care center. Without them, this storm would be much longer. Will has been out of work again battling this infection and the process it takes to recover. Greta is his caretaker but dealing with her own health issues. Right now, she is actively having treatment for spinal damage that is causing significant pain and mobility limitations. She also suffers a rare disease that affects her muscles as well as Lupus. The storm might be heavy and very dark, but they do not give up and just face each day the best they can. This fundraiser is to support Will and Greta Harris during this time of difficulty in their lives. Through everything they are facing they are still giving of their hearts and time to the community every chance they get. Whether you know Will and Greta personally or just resonate with the phrase, we appreciate each T Shirt that is purchased.
